Model Exploration
For this assignment we were tasked with creating detailed models of our final project, focusing on exploring various aspects such as shape, size, quantity, color, and material. We experimented with these elements to understand how they interact and influence the overall design and functionality of the project. Each model clearly demonstrates the impact of these variables and provides insights into the choices that best suit the project’s objectives.

Assignment Description
When exploring the greater issue of plastic pollution in oceans, we explored multiple different possible concepts. The objective was to explore various dimensions of this environmental challenge, starting with the primary sources of plastic waste entering marine environments. The project involved prior research regarding the impact of plastics on marine life and ecosystems. We were tasked with creating a concept board for a model that artistically represents our chosen issue of oceanic plastic pollution. The concept board was our first step in illustrating our proposed artistic model, showing how it captures the essence of the problem, and its impact on marine life and ecosystems, and potentially offers a reflective or transformative experience for viewers. This endeavor aims to merge artistic expression with environmental advocacy, providing a platform for innovative symbolism and heightened awareness.

Original Artist Statement
This piece transforms everyday plastic bags into a mesmerizing swarm of jellyfish, suspended between the lights and shadows. This installation is a visual exploration of the fascinating yet dangerous allure of plastics in our oceans, which, to the unsuspecting marine life, can appear as an inviting space. The soft, glowing lights cast through the translucent bags create an ethereal beauty, inviting viewers to a closer, more intimate interaction with what is essentially waste. This artwork is a commentary on the irony of beauty in pollution, highlighting how the very materials that captivate us with their utility and convenience are the same ones that entangle and threaten marine ecosystems. It is a call to mindfulness about our consumption habits and their ripple effects on the environment.
